About Us

From the very beginning,
BlackSheep Productions was different.

Lisa Montgomery was the so-called “black sheep” of her family.  Her friends and family didn’t understand her fascination with shop class in high school, or pursuit of an Industrial Design degree from the University of Cincinnati.  But that was her calling.  Over time, Lisa’s passion led to a successful career in tradeshows & exhibits, and she became an award-winning designer. She made the transition from exhibits to events in the late 1990’s and established BlackSheep Productions with the support and encouragement of several clients. It was a fitting name for an individual who followed her own artistic path.

Lisa married Mark Bowling in 2002, and he later joined the BlackSheep team as Executive Producer. Previously, Mark spent 15 years serving the Telecom and Transaction Processing industries.  He was present at the startup for both PowerTel (which later became part of T-Mobile) and PRE Solutions and helped guide their rapid growth and success.

Mark’s desire and inspiration to grow the company beyond just two independent contractors was God-given.  In 2006, a huge opportunity to produce & manage a large corporate event initiated the successful transition to a full-service event production company with a full suite of event management & production services.

As the business grew, so did our family of trusted BlackSheep partners.  The core team includes Michelle Penny (Event Management), Sam Renkin (Creative Producer), Jennifer Duquain (Sponsor and Program Management), Jessica Harrison (Registration and Technology), and Jordan Shaw (BlackSheep in the Community Leader).  Our extended professional family includes dozens of experienced and vetted individuals for graphic design, meeting management, event staffing, video & content development, technical direction, and AV production to offer a scalable collection of services for events of every size and location across North America and around the world.

Despite losing Lisa in 2017 after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer, BlackSheep Productions has grown to serve a portfolio of clients in several industry verticals.  Our success is a direct result of our commitment to wise stewardship of our client’s budget, a highly-organized program management methodology, our dedication to building meaningful relationships, and a heartfelt desire to truly make a difference.

BlackSheep Productions
exists to make a difference by serving well
our client partners and their key stakeholders,
our BlackSheep family, the live events industry
and the world in which we live.
